Pre-Competitive

Thunder Bay Sychro’s Pre-Competitive Program offers swimmers the opportunity to progress the participant’s synchronized swimming skills over the entire season, from September to April, while having fun and building friendships. This group will be able to grow together as swimmers and team-mates as they develop their skills.

The Pre-Competitive Program is for swimmers looking to move from the Recreational Program into the competitive stream for the first time, or swimmers who may be brand new to synchronized swimming.

These swimmers train on Tuesdays from 5 – 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Lakehead University Pool in Thunder Bay.

Our Pre-Competitive Program teaches young girls synchronized swimming fundamentals, such as, sculling, basic figures, and an introduction to putting their skills to music as a routine! No previous synchro experience is needed! Swimmers must however be:

  • comfortable in deep water
  • able to submerge while holding their breath
  • able to swim two lengths
  • able to tread water for 20 seconds

Pre-Competitive swimmers perform at two Watershows each season, which are held in the Winter and Spring. Our Pre-Competitive team will participate in a fun out-of-town meet in the spring (The Crocus Challenge) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There are basic uniform requirements for Pre-Competitive swimmers.
